Just when we were thinking about how long it had been since the last 360 vs. PS3 debacle, The Wheelman's Executive Producer Shaun Himmerick has come along to save the day.
When asked by ThisXboxLife.com what it had been like to develop simultaneously for Xbox 360 and PS3, Himmerick replied:
"The politically incorrect answer is that the PS3 is a huge pain in the ass. Anyone making a game, if you're going to make it for both [360 and PS3], just lead on the PS3 because if it works on the PS3 it'll work on 360."
"The easiest way to look at it is, the 360 has one big chunk of memory, but the PS3 has two chunks of memory that in total are the same size as the Xbox, but because they're split you can't share memory the same way. That will bite you in the ass, and it bit us in the ass bad."

Two days ago, community manager of Alan Wake forums received a package from Alan Wake developer Remedy. Remedy has been giving all kind of presents for the moderators and the staff of the forum.
This time it was a message from Alan Wake himself:
"The amount of pages keeps growing each night. There are also new edits on the old pages. They keep getting more aggressive. The story is rewriting itself. The protagonist is now my namesake, and his wife is called Alice. The most worrying aspect: the genre seems to be shifting. It's turning into a horror story. I can no longer be certain whether the hero can succeed or even survive. Apart for jumbled fragments of bad dreams and an oppressive feeling, I can remember nothing of the process when I wake up. But this morning, a breakthrough! When I came to my senses, I could smell her perfume on my shirt. I am close. I know it. I must push on.

Pros & Cons of a One Console World
There's been a buzzing going around the net of how it would be if there was only one console in the world. Many fanboys also state that their console should be the only console to exist. Aside from the people who are and aren't fanboys, there is also some developers talking about it, such as Todd Howard; you may know him as executive producer and game director of Bethesda Softworks or better as the guy behind the brilliant GOTY 2008 Fallout 3 or GOTY 2006 Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. All of these people have the same interests. For a one console world unfortunately there would be pros and cons, much like there is in everything else. Things people may think they know what they want now, but in the end, they might very well regret it. Which company would get to deliver this console? Let's recap on some of these things; they may come obvious to some.
There was a lot of aggression this week in gaming. Versus fighting, in-game rape controversy, PS3-endorsement angst, violent media and kids, blackmail, endless wartroubling times indeed.

On top of all this was one special PS3 hooked up to the projector at the front, so no matter where you went there was a lot of Killzone 2 to enjoy!"

Though we've been long promised that the era of OLED (organic light-emitting diode) TVs is just around the corner, it appears we're going to have to wait even longer. The major players in electronics who have the resources to build OLED TVs have been whacked by the global financial meltdown along with the rest of us. In other words, the timing to jump-start a brand new TV technology is terrible.

Slashgamer Writes: On occasion, Jaffe says somethings on his website and gets the video game world all riled up and he has done it again.
This time, the designer said that video games have yet created a story that is comparable to other mediums. He even concludes that maybe the gaming industry will never be able to match them.
"Overall, I feel the medium is either not capable of creating and sustaining deep emotions or we have simply not come close to understanding how to do it on a consistent basis. I am open to it, but I'm just being honest with how I feel about the current state of storytelling in gameplay."
We read and talked to some people about what he has said and for the most part, gamers strongly disagrees with him. However, I am in the minority; I in fact think Jaffe is 100% right."

On both consoles, it is still played by millions online, and with local multiplayer. Even allotting for the fact that every First Person Shooter developer to date so far (Including High Voltage Software with their upcoming The Conduit) has avoided split screen multiplayer on the Wii like the plague, (and a Wii version likely wouldn't have had it), the biggest reason why this game wouldn't have been nearly as popular on the console as the others is the fact that Nintendo's online policy hurts developers by lessening the appeal of certain games to the target audience.

Talking to D+PAD earlier this week, The House of the Dead: Overkill developers Headstrong Games have expressed their delight at having their game score higher than Killzone 2 in the most recent issue of EDGE Magazine.
When asked how it felt to be rated higher than Killzone 2, lead producer Neil McEwan replied:
"It feels pretty awesome! You know, because we thought we're on the Wii, it's a light gun game, it's another on-rails shooter, we thought people would bring us down.
"I skipped home with EDGE's review, we put a lot of effort into this game and I think that shows."
Talking to D+PAD earlier this week, The House of the Dead: Overkill developers Headstrong Games have expressed their delight at having their game score higher than Killzone 2 in the most recent issue of EDGE Magazine.

Here's the silicon scuttlebutt of the weekend, if not the week: Sony will use Intel's Larrabee graphics chip in its upcoming PlayStation 4. (Let's not forget the other tantalizing piece of speculation this week: the Nvidia-powered Microsoft smartphone rumor, which Microsoft apparently put to rest.) We know for a fact that Jeffery Katzenberg at DreamWorks likes Larrabee--a lot. That apparently was one of the reasons DreamWorks dropped Advanced Micro Devices.
So, chalk that up as one big win for Intel's somewhat-murky next-generation graphics chip due late this year or 2010. Now Sony? A report this week in the U.K.-based technology Web site The Inquirer claims Sony favors Larrabee over Nvidia for its PlayStation 4. (The other major piece of silicon used in the current PlayStation is a Cell processor developed jointly by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba.)

Call of Duty: World at War patch hits PC today
Call of Duty: World at War gets patched to version 1.2 today, says Activision.
A few changes and fixes are included in the update, along with a new map - a daytime version of "Makin" - which will be exclusive to PC.
Here's what you get:
* Fixed exploits that allowed for power ranking servers
* Fixed router related server authentication errors
* Fixed HTTP Redirect functionality for downloading mods
* Fixed sound device crashes stemming from Emulated Sound Devices
* Fixed exploit which allowed players to color their name tag
* Hits now register properly while targeted player is leaning
* Enabled /cg_drawfps in multiplayer games
* Fixed command-line +connect functionality
* /cg_fov no longer resets to the default value in between matches
* Dedicated servers automatically reconnect to the Master Server in case the Master Server resets
* "Accept Game Invite" is bound to its default key, F10

Sony Computer Entertainment, who are trying to drum up publicity for the Sony PS3 after SmartHouse revealed that the Company was price gouging Australian consumers by charging up to $103 more for a PS3 in Australia than in the USA, is now trying to claim that that they sold 213,000 PS3s in Australia last year.
However, SmartHouse who was not given the company press release after the company boss Michael Ephraim went on a "rant" over our price gouging story last week believes the numbers could include over 50,000 units that were given away for free by Sony as part of two promotions for Sony Bravia LCD TV's.

At its simplest, winning most games comes down to one thing: outsmarting your opponent. One of the appeals of networked games, however, is that doing so is generally considered to be much more challenging when your opponent is a human instead of a machine. Even the best algorithms can fall into predictable patterns, and few of them are able to recognize any habits that human players fall into. A new, open access study describes how the brain activity of subjects changed based on whether they thought they were playing a human or not, and that this difference is influenced by the sex of the subject.
The paper itself has a provocative title, starting with the question, "Are women better mindreaders?" The answer, I'd argue, isn't actually contained in the text, which appears to suffer a bit from some overinterpretation of the data and a discussion that casually accepts some gender clichés. Nevertheless, the basic data appear to be solid, even if their interpretation isn't.
AmBX allows developers to add hardware-supported special effects to games, and the company recently announced a free SDK with test tools and examples to help them get started.

With not just a PS3 version listed, but a release date of June 5, EA down as the label and even the ability to pre-order the game right now, HMV seems pretty sure it's happening. More than an easily-missed typo-o, anyway.

For anyone wondering how this fares to the belittled and criticised first Killzone, there really is no comparison - Killzone 2 is more than its own game with the only real point in common being the genre and its narrative.
With this in mind I'm going to ignore the first game barring story reference as it would be unfair to compare the two. Killzone 2 is such a leap over its predecessor any such association would be seen as sheer semantics in light of Guerilla's achievements here.
None of the above is to say Killzone doesn't suffer in any capacity, because there is a manifest of issues I have with the game, not the least of which will see me being lynched by the Sony/PS3 mafia for pointing out, but I want it known from the outset I think this is an excellent game. It's absolutely one of the most impressive looking current-gen titles, and has a plethora of great combat ideas thrown into a solid mix of tried and tested gameplay formulas. It just isn't all it could be, perhaps for lack of a focus on consistency. But let's start at the beginning..."

For anyone wondering how this fares to the belittled and criticised first Killzone, there really is no comparison - Killzone 2 is more than its own game with the only real point in common being the genre and its narrative.
With this in mind I'm going to ignore the first game barring story reference as it would be unfair to compare the two. Killzone 2 is such a leap over its predecessor any such association would be seen as sheer semantics in light of Guerilla's achievements here.
None of the above is to say Killzone doesn't suffer in any capacity, because there is a manifest of issues I have with the game, not the least of which will see me being lynched by the Sony/PS3 mafia for pointing out, but I want it known from the outset I think this is an excellent game. It's absolutely one of the most impressive looking current-gen titles, and has a plethora of great combat ideas thrown into a solid mix of tried and tested gameplay formulas. It just isn't all it could be, perhaps for lack of a focus on consistency. But let's start at the beginning..."
